Chris is going to check out Germantown’s “Working While Playing” open mic tomorrow (Tuesday, December 19th) at 7:30pm. This organization supports local musicians by offering recording facilities and rehearsal space for reasonable rates.
Their story sounds like quite an adventure.
Meanwhile, the band had a most excellent practice yesterday, with pizza and wine (thanks, Rahul). Ricky forgot his stick bag at home, but wooden spoons from the kitchen substituted, and the rest of us worked out harmonies and chords and…stuff like that. “Breakdown” is going to rattle some bones once it’s whipped into shape, with Rahul working on a distortion-drenched solo and Norm grinding out some pumped-up bass. Also on the practice agenda was some “Rawr” fine tuning, a few other originals, and a couple of smooth instrumentals from Santana and Lee Ritenour.
Saw friends Jonathan (see image below) and Tom at the open mic, tonight, emcee’d by Melanie Jones. Played three originals: “Dreams Tonight”, “Breakdown”, and “Goodbye”.
Nice space. A variety show evening, with veteran folkies Charles and Drew singing, respectively, of Christmas Intermission and Dating Want Ad Self-portraiture, a poet or two (surprising number of poets in the World), a sweet girl singing sweet songs sweetly with an anti-sustain pedal on a recalcitrant, electrical piano, two half-Jewish comedians telling jokes about grammar school suicide, masturbation and alcohol therapy, and a tall, young man in black singing songs he had written all by himself. There were no jugglers.
I ate all the Cheetos in my table’s snack basket. Definitely the place to come for Cheetos. Excellent photos below were taken by Dave DiRentis, the Man with the Lens. More photos of the participants at Working While Playing.
